Bleak… But Not Quite.

Writing 101, Day 20: The future

Congratulations! It’s the final day of Writing 101.
As we wind down the course, let’s look forward. What’s next? Some prompts to get you started:

  • Next month, I plan to . . .
  • What does the remainder of 2015 hold for you?
  • I believe that my future looks . . .
  • In the future, I could do without . . .
  • 5, 10, 20 years from now . . .

As much as I don’t want to be a downer, this being our last assignment for Writing 101: Finding Everyday Inspiration, I don’t think I can think of anything to describe the future other than bleak. I said “bleak… but not quite” because I know that life will continue to kick me in the teeth, but I also know that, despite its endless challenges that it will try to throw at me, I can get past through all of it. I don’t know what my future holds, or where fate will take me in 5, 10, 20 years or even next month, but I know that whatever happens, I will not go down without a fight.

So how do I end this? Let’s try to answer the prompts one by one, shall we? Continue reading

Tiny Poem

Writing 101, Day 19: Feature a guest

As mentioned on Day 11, today is the day to publish your collaboration post! Ideally, you reached out to a candidate and gathered what you needed. Today, publish this post, and don’t forget to link back to your collaborator’s site.

Pierra and Me

The first time I met Pierra (the one in the middle beside me) when we interviewed them for our Journ 101 class in college

On Day 11, I had a slight panic attack when I read that we’re going to have to interview and/or collaborate with someone. I like writing a lot, and I would interview someone if I was tasked to do it, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy doing it. However, come Thursday of the same week this task came up, I saw a post shared by one of my contacts on Facebook. It was a poem that suddenly made me emotional. I didn’t know why, and it was only until I “interviewed” her about it that I understood why; I can relate. Continue reading

Writing 101, Day 15: Take a cue from your readers

Remember the poll or contact form that you set up during week two to collect ideas from your readers? Write today’s post based on one of the ideas from your list. Be sure to give this reader a shoutout and link back to their blog.

Before I proceed with my assignment for today, let me just say that I’ve been awake for 26 hours now and counting so the edit button is off today.

11 days ago, we were asked to create a poll to ask people what we should write next, which I posted along with my Day 6 assignment, In the Red Room. In my post, majority of you (READ: TWO) said I should write something about love/friendship and since I can’t think of any friendship stories to tell right now, I’m just gonna have to go with a love story.

The question, however, is which one? I don’t have a lot of experiences when it comes to love, but I’m not innocent about it either. I guess I could start with the beginning, right? Continue reading

In the maze…

Writing 101, Day 13: Compose a series of vignettes

Today, tell a story through a series of vignettes (short, episodic scenes or anecdotes) that together read as variations on the same theme. They can each be as short or long as you see fit — they don’t have to be the same length — but they need a common feature to tie them together, whether it’s a repeated phrase, a similar setting, or the appearance of the same person.
Not sure how to approach this assignment? Pick one of these:
  • Tell a story composed of scenes in each of which you eat your favorite dish, or enjoy your signature drink.
  • Build a narrative of your own personal growth (or your attempts at achieving it) by evoking some of your past birthday parties.
  • Write a post in which each section begins with the phrase “You may never believe this.”
  • Recount the same anecdote several times, but do it in a different style or genre each time, so that each retelling exposes something new in your tale.

Okay, so before I continue with the assignment, can I just say that I’m having a hard time with today’s assignment. Either I need to take a nap because I’m so tired from our rehearsals or I’m just incredibly slow today. I CAN’T DIGEST EVERYTHING PROPERLY! I don’t know why I can and can’t understand what to do with Vignette. I’ve never tried it before, and even though I think I understand and know what to do, it’s like a part of my brain pushes me to quit because what I will write will suck, anyway. And then another part of my brain just wants to continue watching dance videos on Youtube even though I’m on a break for three weeks starting tomorrow because the theater group is having their opening production from October 12-17 and next week is going to be their hell week.

Okay, I’m rambling. I should stop now.

My left eye hurts. Maybe I really just need to sleep, but it hurts a bit, it’s making me a bit harder to focus. Okay, I supposed I should stop now and just go with the assignment, right? Continue reading

Longer Short Love Stories

22nd September, 2015. 01:00pm

Writing 101, Day 12: Play with word count

In today’s post, pay attention to the total length of your post: if you usually write posts under 500 words, aim for longer. If you tend to write a lot, be succinct.

I got this idea from a top ten my favorite radio show did a few days ago. The real challenge was to send in short love stories in 140 characters, but since this is WordPress, I decided to make 3 stories and make it longer, going for the 50-word story instead.

“Out of the closet”
“I was straight, but I fell in love with him. I wish I didn’t. I don’t know how it happened, but it did.” Pressy says.
“You know it’s gonna be a rough road for you since you’re both guys, right?”
“I know. But I can’t hide it anymore. I’m ready.” Continue reading
