Do you feel you have found your voice on your blog? What techniques have you tried to develop your voice in your writing? What are some characteristics of your personality in your writing?

I’ve been blogging for as long as I can remember so it was funny how today’s prompt asks about finding my voice on my blog. Have I actually found it? The answer, to be honest, is I  don’t know.

When I was working for a magazine as an intern, the then-Editor-in-Chief, Pierra (who’s now one of the contributors at Manila Bulletin and owner of Magpie of Kawaii), once told me to always put a personal spin on every article I write. I’ve always admired her writing prowess and fashion sense so after I graduated from college, I collected every single lesson that I have learned from her and the other editors and took it with me as I write new articles, whether it be for my blog or my clients.

I guess you could say that that’s the “technique” I tried, tested, developed and continues to use with this blog. I know that some people find this blog very “self-oriented” but I think that’s kind of the point of this blog. It’s called When My Brain Farts, right? What else can I write if they (the topics I write about) didn’t spurt out of my peculiar mind?

As per “characteristics of my personality” go, I think it’s safe to say that every bit of it is showing in this blog. Okay, perhaps not all of it, but at least a huge chunk of who I am does. So why don’t I just share this with my family and friends? Well, sometimes you don’t need an audience to be heard. Sometimes, all you need is an outlet to let your thoughts out. If someone listens, then great. But if nobody cares, then that’s okay, too, I guess. What matters is that you speak your mind… even when no one’s listening.

KTHXBYE.
