Personal Spin

Today on the Daily Prompt, the question for “Not for Thee” goes:

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received that you wouldn’t give to anyone else? Why don’t you think it would apply to others?

On my last day as a MEG intern, the then Editor-in-Chief told me (well, wrote on my evaluation paper) to put a personal spin on the articles I write. It was one of the best advice I have ever received because putting a personal spin on my articles allowed me to write and finish my job faster.

Not that I do it all the time,  because there are certain articles that doesn’t need one. But it’s that same advice that I think helped me find my voice in the writing world. That is my strength and I should take advantage of it.

So why won’t I give it to anyone? Simple. I’m selfish that way. *laughing like an Evil Queen*

No, in all seriousness, the reason why I don’t think it wouldn’t apply to other people is because not everyone is comfortable opening themselves up to the public. Some people prefer to keep their private lives as private as they can, while I bask in putting personal spins on my work. Besides, who would want to hear what you have to say?

Okay, so some people would actually like that, but not everyone. And me? I just don’t care whether they don’t want to hear it or not. I blog for myself, not the others, so why should I care?

Some people say that my blog is self-oriented; all I write is about me, myself and I. I know it should bother me, and it does (a bit), but then again I told myself, “well, think about your goals. What is your blog about?” That’s when I  realized that a lot of my well-praised works were the ones where I opened up myself. Although there are quite a few ordinary articles that stood out, too, it was those with a “personal spin” that made people notice my (writing).

I’m not saying you should, too, because like I said, you may not be comfortable in opening up. Then again, you can try it if you’d like. That is, if it’s okay for you to get naked on paper.

KTHXBYE.
